Fear of Commitment

Well today we actually got set up with a monthly cell phone plan. For years we've just relied on no-contract prepaid phones which always sufficed for us -- but now with me using it for work and traveling more, it's become clear the prepaid thing isn't really going to cut it anymore. Good thing is the bank pays for more than half the monthly cost. Of course, the flip side of that is that if I get laid off again, we're still stuck with the plan. Technological commitment is always scary -- I mean, picking cellphones and plans you gotta do all this research, because once you pick one you're married to the darn thing.

Yesterday we took Mira and her cousin Laura to Landmark Center in downtown St. Paul for ice skating, which was great fun. I hadn't been on a pair of ice skates in about 30 years (and that was a fairly unpleasant experience) but somehow I managed to cautiously scoot along without falling. Mira's skated before so she got comfortable pretty quickly and after a while Kris and I were having an interesting time keeping up with the girls. With temps 30 and above it was a very nice day for it, and it showed: the rink was fairly crowded the whole time we were there.
