Chichen Itza!

Okay here's another batch of Mexico pics, from our day at Chichen Itza. This was our first full day in Mexico, as far as side trips go this is far enough inland to kill a day and it was just brutal -- 95 degrees or so and almost no shade to be had. The sights were very cool though. The main pyramid (1st 3 pics) has a weird acoustic effect that if you clap your hands from a certain direction, it returns an echo that sounds like a bird call -- 'The Voice of Kulkulkan' -- it's really weird to hear. The last 4 shots (from the skulls on down) are fixtures dedicated to warriors as I recall -- the very last picture being a close-up of one of the many columns seen in the immediately preceding shots. The hoop protrusion sticking out of the wall in one of the middle pictures is from the huge ball court (where they would play this game until somebody won, sometimes for weeks at a time because it's really hard to get the thing up there, and when somebody did finally win somebody would die) -- I also liked taking pictures of stone heads as you can see.
