Sparky's First Flight

Normally of course, dogs don't fly. But yesterday Sparky tried. We went to Julie's (Kris' sister's) cabin west of the Twin Cities with Sparky & they had their dog, Belle, there too. We found out there was a big thresher show going on just down the road a few miles, and so decided to go see it -- but dog's weren't allowed and we hadn't brought Sparky's little kennel along. So we all figured we'd just put the dogs in the downstairs of the cabin, block the stairs with the ping-pong table tipped over and lock the doors and they could keep each other company until we got back.

Imagine our surprise when we came back 4 hours later and Sparky was running around in the yard waiting for us. Front door was still locked, back door was still locked, how did he get out? Well it turns out the upstairs door leading out onto the balcony was NOT locked, so after knocking down the ping-pong table and running upstairs he kicked open the screen door, must have run out onto the balcony, and leaped OVER the railing to land on the ground 15-20 feet below.

That had to be the way, it's the only physical way out of the house that we can tell was open. Belle was still inside the cabin, yipping away. I found the dig marks in the grass where he must have landed, later that afternoon and evening he was walking with a bit of a limp. Our little Hairy Houdini is just lucky he didn't break any bones.
