A Week Later

Wow it's been a full week since election day already.  It feels weird not reading election news every day.  It's also weird not getting some RNC flyer in the mailbox every day (usually on black paper, with Obama's shadowy face and the word "TERRORIST" in big menacing letters on the front -- a none-too-subtle visual with racial undercurrents... not the GOP's finest hour).

We were among those celebrating Tuesday night, we opened up a good bottle of wine.  Was very much a 'Morning in America' feel the next day.  And a few days later after getting over the whole "I can't believe it somebody I voted for won" thing, we took down our Obama lawn sign and went back to life as usual, may just keep it for the next cycle in 4 years, we'll see.

Election day itself was a sight to see.  I went to vote shortly after 7:00am and there was a line at least 100 feet out the door and to the end of the block, which alone made this a proud day in election history.  Someone drove by fast in a pickup and screamed "Vote for McCain!" out his window at the long line -- it wasn't exactly a friendly suggestion, and I doubt that he changed many minds at that point.    One of the election volunteers keeping an eye on the line outside I recognized as a former co-worker from a previous bank.  Turned out he had just gotten laid off, along with about 30 other mortgage bankers.  Ouch.
