Spring Cleaning

What a beooootiful weekend. 75-80 degrees and sunny, it doesn't get any better than this, folks.

Saturday we spent much of the day cleaning house -- getting a bunch of Mira's old baby toys and stuff like that gathered into a pile along with some bags and boxes of clothes and things to go to Goodwill. We took one and a half car loads full of stuff over there and the house is still full of stuff. On Sunday we got another good carload or so of stuff ready to haul in this week.

I can't believe how much stuff you can accumulate and how it can be suddenly 10 years before you get around to actually digging it out of a box and getting rid of it. I think little elves secretly sneak into the basement at night and put more stuff down there, because I swear I don't know where half this stuff came from.

We also got some yardwork in. I made a trip with a trunkload of stuff to the county brushpile / compost center too. Speaking of compost, our backyard composter is doing great now. With the bottom layer now 2 years old, it's nice and black and loaded with organic goodies. You sniff it and it doesn't even smell anymore. It's gonna be great fertilizer, potting material, etc.

Early Sunday morning I went for a bike ride around the neighborhood and to a park to see the sun rising over the lake. It's kind of amazing how quiet everything is at 7am on a Sunday in Saint Paul. Spent the afternoon with in-laws in Shakopee, sitting around the patio eating brats and chicken while everybody was swapping vacation stories from family road-trips taken when Kris and her siblings were kids, with Sparky wandering the patio from chair to chair hoping for somebody to drop something.
