The Forbidden Zone

OK the pinkish shaded area in this image is what I call the 'Forbidden Zone' -- includes basically all the nearby bridges that have been cordoned off. I've figured this out as I've been testing alternate ways to get to work the last couple of days.

Both bicycle bridges across the river (one to the west and one to the east) and the 10th Avenue bridge are closed off. So in total it looks like we're down 4 bridges for the time being. My guess is they have them closed off because they don't want crowds of spectators spanning those bridges while they're still searching for bodies. I can certainly see that, but in the meantime living without this many bridges is a serious pain.

I tried crossing further southeast along the river at Washington Avenue to see if it was any better than the 3rd Avenue bridge I took yesterday. It's a little more direct but that path takes me right around the 35W detour area and the traffic is ghastly. Although, up at the 3rd Avenue bridge the traffic is ghastly too so I guess it doesn't matter. The traffic is dreadful everywhere.
