Red Planet

Since I don't have to worry about getting to work on time, now I can start going out into the backyard at 4am and set up the big blue telescope to check out Mars. Mars makes its approach in December, so it's starting to get big and bright straight overhead in the early morning sky. After 2 days of clouds and rain though the air was pretty murky so I could make out one polar cap but other than that I didn't see much. But it's good to see Mars again after about 2 years (which is roughly the interval between opposition events, where Earth and Mars pull up alongside each other in their orbits).

Below is my home-built pride and joy, the 10" f/8 planet-killer.
