Last Days of the Colony

This is Methuselah. He was the last surviving member of the ant colony from my July 27th post, and he died today. These ants are supposed to have lifespans of about 2 weeks. It is now 4 weeks beyond that initial post, and we had them several days before that, and they were in transit before that, so this dude was at least 5 weeks old. That's probably about 187 in human years.

We were still feeding him and watching him, though it was kind of sad, he looked lonely in there. All of the bodies of the fallen brethren had long since been piled into little ant mini-graveyards in a few select spots set aside for them by a dwindling group of survivors. But being the last survivor, little Methuselah had no one to give him the proper ant-burial that his comrades got.

That is so sad :( I'm sure you did the proper burial.

Hope all is well.
