This is now the view from along my daily commute to & from work. The first picture is the view from the north, looking south toward the river from the 5th Street pedestrian bridge crossing over 35W. You can see the buckling at the top of the near side of the bridge, and on the far riverbank the steep pitch of the south end of the bridge, sitting at a steep slant since the collapse. The second is a bit further along the route, looking east downriver from the Stone Arch Bridge. A lock & dam is in the foreground, the 10th Avenue bridge is in the background (now accessible only to emergency personnel) -- a piece of the bridge sits at a sleep pitch to the left of the trees and there is twisted metal in the river to the right of the trees beyond the lock.

When I look at these pictures, it
just feels overwhelmingly sad -
same way as looking at the pictures of the towers falling -
just overwhelmingly sad.
